Sorrento to Florence by train on a Saturday too much?

Judging by the amount of time of each train journey takes this seems ok, or are we over ambitious? Where could we expect delays? Don't really want to spend a whole day travelling especially when carrying luggage. Arriving late afternoon would be fine. We are returning home from Rome after visiting Florence, so didn't really want to stop in Rome for one night.

You can take an ES train from Florence to Naples which takes 3 1/2 hours. From Naples you switch to the local commuter train to Sorrento and takes about 70 minutes.

ScotC - If you get a direct ES train from Naples you needn't expect any delays.

Journey time is approx. 3hrs 30'

Sorrento-Naples normally takes about 70 mins by Circumvesuviana - so with a good connection your total journey time should be about 5 hrs.

Hope this helps ...

Thank you for the replies. We didn't realise we could go directly from Naples to Florence, thought we would have to go via Rome, so that is great news. Thank you again.
