SORRENTO TO FLORENCE
Hi, can anyone answer this question: is it best to fly from Sorrento to Florence or take the train when pressed for time? This is my sister's first visit to Italy (I've been several times) and she wants to see Pompeii, so I thought we'd spend a night in Sorrento before heading to Florence. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Closest major passenger airport to Sorrento is Naples.
I don't think there's non-stop flight NAP-FLR. Train from Naples to Florence takes 3:30 to 4:00. Which is your best bet. |
Hi KP - RK's right - there are no direct flights to Florence.
Train's your best option ... Steve |
Hi KP,
I suggest that, rather than taking the train from Naples to Sorrento, then back to Pompeii, then back to Sorrento, then back to Naples, you stay the night in Naples. ((I)) |

If you are really pressed for time there are lots of day tours offered to Pompei from companies in Rome. They are about 12 hour full day tours. Leave pretty early. You don't have much time in the ruins, but it's good for a taste of Pompeii and Naples. I'm sure you'll go back.

From her other posts, she is flying into Naples from London, so her trip starts in Naples.
Take the train from Naples to Florence. There are ES trains about every hour. |
