Sorrento to Assisi

I would like to know what is the best way to go from Sorrento to Assisi and then from Assisi to Florence. Is it by train or bus???? Thank you.

Chadi - There is a twice weekly DIRECT bus service between Sorrento and Assisi (- Thursdays and Sundays).
Journey time is approx 6 hours.

The operator is Curreri:
http://www.curreriviaggi.it/

The journey by train is not much quicker - with a change of train at Naples, Roma Termini and (sometimes) Foligno.

For train timetables see:
www.massalubrense.it/circum.htm (for Sorrento-Naples)
www.trenitalia.com (- for Naples-Assisi)

[N.B. Assisi station is a 20 mins bus (- or taxi) ride from the town of Assisi].

For Assisi-Florence by train see:
www.trenitalia.com

Some trains are direct, others require a change of train at Terontola.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Thank you Steve. Your information was great, we did not have any information on these routes!

I would take the train. More space. But you'll have to manage the changes at the Naples station, so...

We took a direct train from Assisi to Rome. My memory is that there are direct trains Assisi-Rome every three hours or so.

Getting to any cities on the single-track secondary line between Cortona/Terontola and Foligno (Lake Trasimeno, Perugia, Assisi, Spello) is a schlep no matter what train you take. Adding in the 75 minutes that you'd need to ride the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Naples and it makes a schlep that much more schlepful. There are a few "direttisimo" trains between Sorrento and Naples that make the Circumvesuviana ride slightly less unpleasant by skipping a handful of stops. Check the website www.vesuviana.it for the Sorrento-Naples timetables, and look for "DD" trains.

Probably what you will have to do it take one train from Naples to Rome, then a second from Rome to either Foligno or Terontola, and then a third to Assisi. There are a few Eurostar or Intercity trains that do not require changes in Rome and/or Foligno/Terontola. All in all, though, including the Circumvesuviana, you're looking at probably 3 trains, maybe 4.

Travel time is 75 minutes Sorrento-Naples, 2 hours Naples-Rome, 1:30 Rome-Terontola/Foligno, 30-60 minutes more to Assisi.
