sorrento restaurants
 

staying in sorrento for 4 nights in june. would love to know of places to see, and also good local food places.

We really liked LUNA ( I think this one was primarily a pizzeria) and LUNA DUE ( fancier restaurant with handmade pastas and wonderful meat dishes), alos ANTICA TRATTORIA.

As far as what to see, I'd suggest taking a walk to the old marina, which is just past the hotel BELLEVUE SYRENE ( opposite direction from town). There is a set of stairs on the street level that takes you down to the marina, and there you'll find artists setting up for the day to paint, as well as a few small restaurants that serve light lunches, snacks, and cappucinos.

Definitely visit the old town section of Sorrento, which is the home of both LUNA restaurants, as well as many unique shops and art galleries.

I'd also recommend day trips to Pompeii ( the local train will get you there in about 30 min) Capri, and some of the Amalfi Coast towns like Positano and Amalfi.

You can either take the SITA bus from Sorrento the Amalfi Coast towns, or take a boat from the marina.

The Terrace in the Bellevue Syrene is a lovely spot to have a lunch away from the crowds and noise. Il Buco is a great restaurant but there are places to eat everywhere in Sorrento. The Amalfi drive is not to be missed. Four nights is not enough!

If you like pizza, order a margarita pizza in Sorrento.My mouth waters just thinking about the taste. They say it's the tomatoes & lemons from the region that gives it the flavor.

From town, take the local bus down to the Piccola Marina (way down at the bottom of the hill - dont walk!) The Hotel Il Faro has a wonderful restaurant (not the adjacent pizza place) with a terrific menu. I didn't know what to choose, so I asked my waiter (Michael) for his advice and he just brought me what he thought was best and it was the finest meal of my whole trip! Enjoy.

If you're staying close to the old town, Piccola Marina is not a far walk at all. It took us about ten minutes or so from Hotel Tramontano, which is just up the street ( toward town) from Bellevue Syrene.
