Sorrento, Praioi, or Positano

Where should I stay? The prices are better in Sorrento and although I know I'd rather stay further down, I'm wondering if it's really worth the extra money (double is what is available) to stay in the heart of Positano. Otherwise, I was looking at Praioi which I'm really not familiar with. Any thoughts? I'm going next week! (and yes there is still availability-I actually have a place on hold while trying to figure this out).

Thanks for any advice!

I have only stayed in Positano-if you want beach access and water views that's the place.

Hi JES,

I've passed through Sorrento several times and just from what I've seen, know it would not suit me.

Positano is beautiful, very tourist oriented. Lots of very expensive shops full of clothes, jewelry, art. Nice boat connection to other towns of interest. Same with Sorrento for all transportation modes.

I've stayed twice in Praiano. Not very touristy at all, more of a very small locals village. A few hotels (a couple of them very, very nice and expensive).

I love Praiano, just perfect for me. I stayed at Le Sirene*** and would go back tomorrow! Very nice, great value, if you can get in.

Dinner at La Brace in Praiano was excellent.

Buon viaggio

Thank you for the great advice and Dayle thanks for the hotel suggestion. I will see if they have availability as it looks adorable for a great price!

Le Syrene didn't have availability with a terrace (which is a requirement for me).

Now I'm looking at Villa Franca in Positano, Onda Verde in Praiano and La Vue D Or in Sorrento.

We want to go to Capri, explore the AC, Ravello, etc. If we stayed in Praiano or Positano would we have a tough time getting to Capri? It's the busiest season and I don't want to sit in traffic getting to where the ferry would be (only Sorrento?).

I have to book today so any advice is appreciated!

There is a ferry from Positano, and one from Amalfi, to Capri.

Here is a good option for you if the others do not pan out; not sure if it meets your price criteria...

There are more boats and typically fewer cancellations from Sorrento than from Positano or Amalfi. But SOrrento simply doesn't have the charm or beauty (despite the crowds) of Positano, Praiano.

If there is traffic, there is no way to get to Ravello without being in it from any of your choices.

For Capri, sounds to me like Positano is the best bet of your existing choices. Amalfi would be marginally better for transportation to both Ravello and Capri.

I loved Villa Franca in Positano. I stayed there on my first trip. It has such beautiful interiors and wonderful views. The restaurant and the breakfasts are good too.
Have fun.
