Sorrento - Positano- Amalfie- Revello- tour- by cab?
 

Hi there- I need some guidance. We are staying in Sorrento from April 4th-7th with another family and we want to do the Sorrento-Positano-Amalfie-Revello tour. I have explored a private tour option with a driver, but we are also wondering if it is possible to take a cab to each location and walk around at our leisure. There will be 7 in our party. Are there cabs that will take us to each of these cities and how many cabs will we need and what will it cost? Thanks in advance for your assistance. PS- I have asked the hotel about this option and they haven't replied yet

No need for a driver or cab.

Take the SITA bus from Sorrento to Positano, visit Positano. Get the same SITA bus line to Amalfi, see Amalfi. Take a second bus line from Amalfi to Ravello, see Ravello. Take that bus back to Amalfi and switch to the Sorrento-bound bus.

Starting out in Amalfi on your return trip to Sorrento (vs.Positano), you will get a seat on the bus which may fill up at Positano.

The towns are kind of in a line down the Coast: first Positano, then Amalfi, then Ravello. Look at a map of the AC. I don't know about taxis from Sorrento to each, but you could take the bus to Positano and perhaps get a taxi from there to Ravello and one back to Amalfi. Then the bus back to Sorrento. You would probably need two taxis and it would be expensive, but direct and nice. You might find a mini-van and driver to do the whole trip from Sorrento.

If ferries are running and weather is nice, doing part of the trip by ferry would be great as views from the water are stunning.

I would even consider doing one day of bus to Amalfi and Ravello, and another day of ferry to Positano.
That is because days will still not be too long, and you may not have the time to do everything you want. I would not care to be on the bus driving the coast after dark. I am a big chicken though, and you are probably a lot braver.

I have done this trip. I have worked out timing using buses, but in order to make this work, I realized I would be taking the bus leaving Sorrento around 6am and coming back around 6pm. I ditched the bus idea. I negotiated a fixed day price with a Sorrento taxi much lower than what you see online targeted to cruise passengers. I left Sorrento at 9am, one hour in Positano, lunch and walked around in Ravello, one hour in Amalfi, and back to Sorrento at 4pm.

Taking taxis piecemeal came out about higher than booking one whole day. I chose the latter to ensure my taxi was there when I was ready to move on. This is especially helpful in Positano where there is really no place to park near the town center. I used a cellphone to coordinate meeting at the pickup point as if we were not there, he had to make another big loop around the one way street.

Thank you all for your replies. One question regarding the bus. Sre these city buses our tour buses where you pruchase the tickets in advance?

They are 'city' buses but you can purchase your tickets ahead of time. But that does not reserve you a seat.... need to be there early to get to the front of the line!

But, yes, there actually was a "queue" for the SITA bus in Sorrento.

It's just a suggestion but cabs are much more expensive than a private minivan. Much more...
