Sorrento, Italy to Mykonos, Greece - (Naples to Mykonos flight at 6am)

Hi all,

My SO and I are staying in Sorrento July 15, 16, 17, and then we want to go to Mykonos on the 18th. We would do Mykonos the nights of 18th and 19th, then take a ferry down to Santorini from July 20 and check out July 23. The only decent flight I found was at 6:00am from Naples to Mykonos. One option I proposed was stay in Naples for the night before the flight, wake up extra early, and make the flight that way, but my SO does not want to stay in Naples because of the bad rap it gets.

Can someone please help me with alternatives? I would not be opposed to doing Santorini first, or staying somewhere nice the night of the 17th in order to catch an early plane on the 18th.

Please help!

Thanks
L

Should have clarified - the only decent flight I found Naples to Mykonos was 6AM on JULY 18.

Thanks,
L

First, we have stayed in Naples several times and had no problems, so that is exactly what I would do.
There are decent hotels right near the airport.

However, getting back to Naples takes a bit of time, will really cut into your last day in Sorrento and you are already very short on time there.

Were you going to other places further down like Positano or Amalfi? If so, you could do that on the 16th and visit Pompeii on your way back to Naples on the 17th. That would save some time and make sense logistically.

Personally, I would take a night from Santorini and add it to the AC, but it depends on your interests.

You may check http://www.volotea.com
Napoli dp 10.50 - Mykonos ar 13.40
17th and 19th July
Napoli dp 18.00 - Santorini ar 20.50
18th July

BTW: Naples is a very sympathic town. I like to stay there. But if you take the easyjet flight, you will not stay in town anyway, but in a airport hotel at Capodichino.

Thanks Sassafrass and neckervd, I will relay the message about Naples. Perhaps I can sway some opinions.

We are staying in Positano for 1 night on July 14, then heading to Sorrento for July 15 check in. The Pompeii-on-the-way option is possible and I will certainly consider it.

What about the option of flying Naples to Athens, and taking a ferry to Mykonos? Would that take too much time and cost too much? Ideally looking for a good cost benefit balance.

Thanks,
L

"What about the option of flying Naples to Athens, and taking a ferry to Mykonos?"
makes sense if ou plan to see Athens (count 2 days for a somewhat decent visit).

How about switching Pompei to your last day in Italy and getting a taxi from Pompei to the airport? It is a fairly short ride, and the hotel where you stay in Pompei should be able to arrange it for you.

(In case my above post isn't clear, I am suggesting you spend the night in a hotel in Pompei. There are plenty, and lots of restaurants and pizzerie too.)

Naples isn't Camden, NJ. You can do with a night there.

Athens is far less interesting than it should be.

Athens is one the great destinations of European travel.

I happen to like Naples, but spending just a night there is not going to be very meaningful or rewarding -- and a great many people who spend a night there really do hate it, and are entitled to their opinion. (As is BigRuss about what Athens "should be" for BigRuss.)

Pompei is so close to the Naples airport you could get there quite easily for an early morning flight if you don't find alternative flights to Greece that appeal to you more.

Both, Naples and Athens have world unique stunning museums which are a must for people interested in European culture and History, but incredibly boring for other people.
The same is true for Pompei: it's a archeological site (with a lot of closed and inaccessible buildings, BTW) but not a Disneyland.
