Sorrento Italy

Will be traveling to Sorrento and am looking for a place to stay in town or very close to town so we can walk from train station to hotel and have dinner in different places. We will be a group of 5 so we are looking for a hotel or B&B that will have rooms for a triple as well as doubles. any suggestions

You don't give your budget so I recommend the Grand Excelsior Vittoria Hotel with a view of the sea. It's just lovely.

For a more modest budget, I've stayed at Hotel City, just around the corner from the train station. When I was there it had been recently remodeled and there was no rooftop cafe. The breakfast was quite bad.

Both hotels are on the main street and just steps from Piazza Tasso.

You are looking for a double/twin and a triple? 190 euros total or 190 euros per room?

Hotels.com and booking.com or bookings.com (I forget which spelling) have good search engines for finding hotels in Sorrento. Plug in your dates and number of adults and children, then search by "distance from city center." The hotels are all described and have reviews by actual users. You don't have to book through them, but you will have to google the hotel's own booking site. Before booking, I would check the hotel's siting on google earth.

While the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is lovely - there is no way it will fall within that budget - which is moderate if per room or very modest if for both rooms.

Look at the Hotel Antiche Mura. I don't know about the rates but the location has exactly what you want, and we very much enjoyed our stay there about 4 years ago.

Sorry to add onto the questions, but what time of year will you be there? It will affect the price...

I used Hotels.com with great success when I stayed in Sorrento two years ago at Hotel Continental. It was early May and thus "shoulder" season; most of the grand hotel we stayed in was closed up awaiting the summer rush! The hotel was perched above the sea on the end of Piazza della Vittoria, about a 10-minute walk through town to the train station. The included breakfast was decent.

Look at the Hotel Tramantano.

We were in Sorrento last month and stayed for 6 nights (before heading to Naples) at Plazzo Agbanale (www.plazzoabganale.com). When you check the website, our room was on the black & white floor (had the picture of Marilyn Monroe in it), and had a balcony overlooking Sorrento's main street (the room was very quiet, considering its location). It's somewhat of a boutique hotel, and is very centrally located (literally behind the church, which is on the main square in Sorrento). The rooms may not be the largest, but are very clean with good size bathrooms. A cold breakfast is included in the room rate. Hotel is maybe a 5 minute walk to the train station. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful to answer your questions. Elios will go out of his way to accommodate your concern! ENJOY!

I know your request was for "in town," but Il Nido is worth checking out. They have shuttle service to the train station (just email your arrival time and they will be there), plus they run their shuttle service to downtown throughout the day and into the evening. It is a beautiful hotel, with a gorgeous view, wonderful hosts, and fabulous breakfast, including fresh orange juice, homemade pastries, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc. They also serve dinner, should you not feel like eating in town.

If you want to day trip the Amalfi Coast, the bus stop is right out front of the hotel.

I have stayed in many hotels throughout Europe and this is my favourite.
