I went to Sorrento a couple of years ago in mid-April. Unfortunatly it rained a lot and was quite cold. The plus side was there were a lot fewer tourists than in the summer, so much so that one resturant that we had to book during summer we could just stroll in and get a table.

John,
I was there last April ( first week). It was very cold and windy, but the week before it had been lovely. You could tell as all the flowers were in bloom. I think early April is a gamble.
I stayed at La Tonnerella. Small room, great patio (too bad it was too cold and windy to sit out there).Bathroom needed sprucing-up (moldy shower curtain). Large tiled dining room.Great view. Helpful staff as many people were changing their plans due to bad weather.Indifferent maid service. ( trays of dirty dishes sat in the hall all day before being removed) Easy walk to town. The place just lacked something; personality. I think...If I ever returned to Sorrento I'd stay elswhere.

I live here, in Penisola Sorrentina and, believe me, April is really the worst month to stay here because of rain.
In April it rains almost every day and it's not warm enough.
Best period before the hot summer is, really, the second half of May: full spring, warm enough and delicious flavour in the air.
Have a nice trip.

I would lisaten to Vincenzo. He knows.
We were there near the end of June and while quite warm it was great.
We returned the year in early May and it was borderline. It drizzled 2 days out of five.
Also, as you move from tourist season, less services operates; boats, etc.
