Sorrento Hotels- view, walking distance to downtown, affordable
Two young couples looking for affordable hotel accommodations located in sorrento somewhere with a view and walking distance to activities. Hotel must be clean, AC preferable but not required and we'd really like to get a real Italian experience! Can anyone recommend a place for the end of June Thanks!

What do you consider to be affordable? What activities are you planning that you would like to walk to?
What type of "real Italian" experience are you looking for? This is a heavily touristed area in season.
Some clarification please.

Tara: "Affordable" covers a rather broad spectrum...but I'll guess you're looking for something around $150. I can suggest a sea view room at Il Faro ("lighthouse")on the smaller marina (Piccola)...easy walk to most everywhere in town. It is not "Tara" (pardon the pun), the Four Seasons, nor even the Two Seasons but commfortable with elevator, A/C and breakfast. Check it out.

We stayed at the Savoia. It is family run, clean, great included breakfast, a/c, but no scenic view. It's a brief (less than 5 min) walk to everything. The rooms on the front have balconies. It is not expensive.
The marina is at the bottom of the cliffs, so a walk to the main area of Sorrento is a bit steep, although there is a bus for a small fee.

This is from my trip report from our 2010 trip:
Ulisse Deluxe Hostel: Via del Mare, 22 Sorrento, Tel.: +39 0818774753 http://www.ulissedeluxe.com/ E-mail: [email protected] per night 69€ double, plus 10€ breakfast, free wi-fi in the lobby( but not in the room), AC, Satellite TV with CNN, mini-bar. It’s considered a “deluxe hostel” rather than a hotel but the rooms are huge, very nice marble floors, nice wood furniture, etc, great bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi tub. The lobby and breakfast room are also huge, modern, nice. I think there are some “hostel” type rooms with bunk beds that are cheaper but all the areas we saw were certainly 3 star hotel quality. There is also a connected fitness center with pool, exercise rooms, etc but that is all extra. There is also a large parking garage, also extra. No view though (well you can see the ocean from the window but just barely). But for the price it was a great deal. Breakfast at 5€ per person was also a steal – far better than anything you could buy for 5€. Location a five minute walk from the old town with all the shops and restaurants. About 20 minutes walk from the train station. And the hotel organizes numerous excursions, we took the one to Capri that was not only a good deal financially but turned out to be one of our favorite experiences.
