looking for hotels in sorrento with a view that is within walking distance to town in july. any suggestions

# of people? budget?

The Hilton in Sorrento was great.. very clean, great area and can walk to town (about 15 minutes, and uphill can be a bit tough) or an inexepensive taxi ride...

Looking at a map of Sorrento, I found these hotels with a view of the Golfo di Napoli (at a higher elevation than the center of town):

Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is right in the center of town - gates right on the main square. But it has large grounds, pool, beautiful gardens etc, and a terrace directly over the water and gorgeous viewsout over the bay of Naples.

Reco this since you don;t mention a budget - I think they call it a 4+* - but we've gotten some very good rates in May.
