Sorrento Hotel with view recommendation?

I would appreciate your recommendations for a hotel with a view in Sorrento in August. Also, if possible, we would like to be within walking distance of the centre of town. Our budget is $200 US a night.

HI SM,

While waiting for suggestions, enter <hotel AND Sorrento> in the "search this forum" box.

Plenty of reviews.

I'm not sure whether it fits your budget but we stayed at the Bellevue Serene and had a great time. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples. The hotel is within 5 minutes of the center of town.

I can also recommend the Bellevue Syrene, but I doubt you'll find a waterview room at the Syrene in August for under US$200. You may find non-waterview rooms in your budget range, and there are many public areas within the hotel where you can sit and enjoy the views. This is a lovely, old-world, old-time hotel.

Go to www.sorrentomap.com for lots of information on Sorrento, including lodging, a city map, train and ferry schedules, cultural events, etc.

We stayed at the Hotel Minerva in Sorrento, where we had a lovely large room with a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples. We loved the hotel--it has a tiny swimming pool and is up a hill from the downtown area, maybe 20 minutes walk (though we used taxis). It's very reasonable, although I don't know the current price--I'm sure it's considerably cheaper than the Belleview Syrene.

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol as part of a tour a few years ago. The view from our room and the dining room was sublime. There is a pool on the roof, the whole place is built into the side of a cliff. We heard some rooms had no view at all (brick wall) so specify you want the view of the bay, looking down at Sorrento. It was about a 15 min easy walk into Sorrento.

I can also recommend the Hotel Minerva in Sorrento. Great views from the rooms on the upper floor. Don't stay on the lower floor as the hallway smelled a bit musty down there. Our room on the upper floor (second or third floor, can't remember) with a balcony was fine, no problems on that floor, and it was around 160 euros last summer. Great breakfast buffet included, and the view from the patio where they serve breakfast is wonderful. We didn't try to walk into town from our hotel so can't tell you if it was convenient, it's definitely NOT in the center of town, it's more on the edge of town. I would take a taxi into town from the Hotel Minerva. We stayed there as a base for day-tours to Amalfi coast and Pompeii.

Hi

Try the Hotel Settimocielo - http://www.hotelsettimocielo.com. At 130E a night for a double room inclusive of breakfast it seems to meet your criteria. Just double check the rooms have private facilities. I can't see any mention of it on their website.

Ciao

Venere.com lets you search by areas. After you select Sorrento just click on the location you want on the map.

There are several hotels with great views up the hill from Sorrento that have free shuttle busses into town also. The Sita busses also pass these hotels so you don't have to walk into town.

I also like the Logis D'Italia website to search for independent hotels.
