Sorrento Help

Has anyone stayed at either the Imperial Tramontano or the Michaelangelo in Sorrento? Please tell me what you know about these hotels. Thanks.

The Tramontano is perched atop a cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples - what a view! It is a short walk from the Bellvue Syrene - they are practically next to eachother - and not far from the center of town. I believe it is where the beautiful song Torna Sorriento was written. I will try to locate the hotel website and post for you. Also, do a search on this site and you will get a lot of info from people who have stayed there.

I never stayed at the Michelangelo but a friend of mine did and really liked it.

I stayed at the Michelangelo this past March. It is right around the corner from the train station, which is good for day trips on the Circumvesuviana. It is about a 6 minute walk to the main square. The rooms were quite big for Europe, the bathrooms newly tiled and all immaculately clean. My only complaint was our room backed up on the railroad, and the trains that ran early or late woke us (along with a rooster somewhere back there!) But the bartender (Giuseppe) is a life-saver after a long day of touring. I would stay there again, but perhaps ask for a room not on the back of the building.

Amy

Amy,

Are there good views of the bay/Mount Vesuvius from any of the rooms or from the public areas of the hotel (Michelangelo)?

We are staying at the Tramontano later this month, so if you can wait, I'll let you know when we get back. I've been impressed with the help we have received from them in planning our trip. It looks like it would be hard to go wrong with them.

The Michaelangelo is no where near the water. No water views at all. You would have to walk to the square (about 6-8 minutes) then take a right and walk down to the water another 5 minutes or so.

Not Likely To Sep 5th, 2002 09:01 AM

Amy,

Thank you for the information.

My favourite hotel in Sorrento is the Imperial Tramontano! It's in a perfect position - in a quiet street, yet still within a minute or two walk from the centre of Sorrento. Make sure you get room overlooking the sea - Vesuvius will be visilbe from practically every room on this side of the hotel. The last time we stayed there we had a huge terrace with cushioned chairs & sofa, so sat & watched the sunset alongside Vesuvius...........Haven't stayed at the Michelangelo, so can't really comment, but I do know that it's not quite as central, and it's on the other side of the coast road, so no views of Vesuvius. Happy holidays....
