Sorrento: getting there and more

Hi everyone, need some help here.
I have been to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast before by car but a near miss that could have sent us plummeting down is not exactly conducive to repeating the adventure! So what other ways are there to get to Sorrento that don't involve driving?
I believe I can catch the ferry from Naples, but can't seem to find a website for one, so not too sure how regularly they go across to Sorrento. Anyone have any ideas? I believe I could take the Circumvesuviana from Naples as well but have read negative reviews for it here on fodors, so think the ferry option is better.
Also any recommendations on places to stay? Our group consists of my parents, my sister, my niece aged 7, and my nephew aged 2, and me ofcourse! Now ideally we want a place near Piazza Tasso so don't have to haul kids up too often, but not too noisy. Also preferably with no pool, if the kids see a pool they'll never leave the hotel! Budget, well hard to say, ideal would be €150 for each room (am assuming we can sleep 2 adults and one kid in each room) but I realize this is high season and may have to pay more, and will be willing to if the hotel is good!
Thanks!

ET - Hydrofoils run about every 2 hrs on this route. For timetables see LMP:

Hope this helps ...

Used CircumV last year. No trouble, but noisy, space enough out of rushhours. Advantage: All trains to and from Naples same station (different levels), no bus/taxi to ferry.
