Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno, Positano? Which is better for 3night?
 

Hi there,

Any advice on where to go, I would like to see Pompeii for sure as half way trip, but I may do that on way out of the following towns (Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno, Positanto) and just drop off my luggage. Or perhaps make Pompeii a hald day trip depending where I stay.

My question is, I can't decide which is the better to stay Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno or Positano? I'd like to feel relaxed and have picturesque scenery, but also not completely secluded from walking around the streets and seeing the locals.

Please advise about the choices if you have any ideas. Thank you.
I will be coming from Venice (2nights) destination to either the above choices (3nights), then off to Rome for (4nights).

That question has been asked for 100 years--there is no right answer. Sorrento has the only good access to Pompeii.

Do you want a tiny town or a larger one? Do you want beter acces to Pompeii and Capri? Sorrento is larger, more choice of hotels and restaurants and easy for a visit to Pompeii. Amalfi an Positano are much smaller, more relaxes with sort of little town beaches (but not within the meaning of the act - most beaches are pebbles, not sand and not very larger and there are no waves.)

Now do you have any good B&B suggestions for the main area to stay in Sorrento? or hotel suggestions?

Anything with seaside view would be fantastic, but understand this may not be doable if I want to be at least close the main area (which would be where Piasso Tazzo). What are the two city areas close to there? I am looking at hotels/B&B's and a little confused how far some would be. Of course I can walk/bus. Preferable 20-30min walk away from main area.

Looking in the range of anything less than 90euro. I'm on a budget. But flexible.

Any hotel or B&B suggestions would be good.
A place where its easily accessible by bus from Naples/ or Sorrento station would help too.

Look at Casa Astarita. The transfer from/to Naples is a local commuter train line named Cicumversuviana. Pompeii is about halfway between---get off at POMPEII SCAVI.

I'm still searching for hotels/B&B, and still contemplating one of the above cities to stay in. Could you suggest further.

As for place to stay, I think i'm leaning more to finding a cute B&B so that i get the italian culture feel. But then again, if you have better suggestions by all means.

1) Bed and Breakfast casoule paradise
2) Villa Elisa Casa Vacanze
3) Antico Casale Russo

Which would you think be better given, no car, but okay with walking (20-30min) to Sorrento station, so long as its not hard trek.

How about Casa Cuccaro in Nocelle (above Positano) - relaxed, incredibly pictueresque, very local, under your budget, very well reviewed on TA. (See Pompeii on your way down or on your way back to Rome - no need to make a special trip.)

I don't like the Positano beaches per se but you there are amazing beaches in the coves near there - eg Gavitella or Arienzo (which you can walk to from Nocelle quickly down many steps too but on a direct gorgeous path). You could catch the bus back up or take the boat launch to Positano. These beaches aren't sandy it's true but they are extraordinarily beautiful spots to spend the day and the water is fantastic.
