Sorrento
 

We have decided to stay in Sorrento for our 5 day holdiay ( atthe end of August) and take day trip to Amalfi coast
Our travelling friends would like a pool any suggestions we would like to stay just out of the city and we will have a car. Any other ideas appreciated!

The Hilton is "in" the city but situated up on a hill about a 10-15 minute walk into town. It is a very nice hotel with a gorgeous indoor and outdoor pool and tremendous views of the bay and Vesuvius.

Elliej, since you will have a car you might want to check out the Hotel Delfino which is at the south end of the small town of Masa Lubrense which is about 6 or 7 Km's (3 miles) south of Sorrento. It is a beautiful hotel over looking the sea. Their pool which is seawate is gorgeous and looks out at the sea and the Isle of Capri with olive groves on the northern side of the pool. A room with a balcony with the same view is so delightful. Just a thought. Masa Lubrense is a wonderful small town and within matter of minutes you can be in Sorrento when you want to go there and of course you can do the day trip to the Amalfi coast which is south of Masa Lubrense.

LoveItaly, if one doesn't have a car, would you still recommend Masa Lubrense? And are there enough restaurants in town so that I can have a glass or two of wine, and walk back to the hotel? Ellie, sorry for intruding on your post...

Linda, let me think about that. There sure are restaurants in Masa Lubrense but since we always had a car I never walked from the hotel into town. The hotel is just rather outside of town (but still within the city limits). I am not sure, well lets say I never noticed, if the road into the main portion of town had a safe place to walk. If you think you would enjoy staying at the Hotel Delfino I would email them and I am sure you would get a responsible answer. I love that hotel and just thinking about it I wish I could spend a week there in a few months. Also, if it wouldn't be the thing to do to walk, especially after wine and dinner you could take a taxi. Again, if the hotel interest you I would email them as I don't want to give you any incorrect information. If you do make reservations there I do hope you will post about your visit! Best regards.

LI, home from work now... thank you for your responses. I think the Delfino looks lovely, slightly old school and with that wonderful view. I could see myself under an umbrella with a book and a cool glass of something for a week, not moving. I'll let you know if I go. Regards, Linda
