Sorrento?
Only a few nights in Italy flying into Rome on a Sunday from Istanbul and flying out on Thursday to US. Would love, love to see amalfi coast...and thinking of staying in Sorrento....Not sure about sorrento... and especially the hotels...would love a pool and the ones that sound like they have nice pools, seem old and dated...could be disappointed...any suggestions? or advice?

Sorrento is a great base for seeing Capri, Positano, Amalfi coast etc. The Hilton has 3 pools- a large kiddie pool, adult pool and an infinity pool on the executive level for European sunbathing. The Hilton is somewhat removed from the town center, easy walking distance though, but the views are breathtaking. So breathtaking, it was difficult to pull myself away from the pool.

We will be at the Antiche Mura in a week. Great reviews and very centro.

Probably the best hotel, if you have a good budget, in Sorrento is Bellevue Syrene. It's a great and very central 5 stars hotel with private beach and complimentary snacks and drinks. This is the website: http://www.bellevue.it/
Instead, with a medium budget there's the Hilton Sorrento Palace or La Favorita. |
Hi frasi13 - we are going to Italy in September and are staying at La Minervetta in Sorrento.....do you know anything about this hotel?
|
The Tramontano, in central Sorrento on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples, has a pool. Pretty good reviews on tripadvisor.
We stayed nearby at the Bellevue Syrene, which we liked very much. However, when we sunbathed on their piers at the base of the cliff, the water was full of garbage discharged from a cruise ship. Definitely didn't want to swim in that. I can't imagine how Sorrento allows cruise ships to do that. |
Hi Wendymindy,
La Minervetta is really a good choise, this hotel has the same designer of Bellevue Syrene, so you'll find a ver fresh decor a little pool and nice views of Naples gulf. The only nuisance is the distance to the center (about 10 minutes on foot). |
brinley: Not sure whether or not your trip has already happened, but if you would really love, love to see the Amalfi Coast, why not stay on the Amalfi Coast itself instead of Sorrento?

Agree with Bob. This hotel is only a few hundred yards from the train station, all downhill. Very near the city center. Richard www.hotelantichemura.com P.S. Bob, have a great trip.
