Someone figure this for me, please?

Firstly, I admit I'm not good at math. Secondly, I get confused easily. Thirdly, my travel agency is closed for Labor Day.

I fly out September 2 from the U.S. The travel agency told me I get to my destination Gatwick on September 3. The British Airways Flight Information tells me I'll get there on September 2.

Can someone just having nothing to do on a fine Sunday please give me the correct date of arrival so I won't be stranded at the airport? Thank you much.

What time do you leave the US?

Jen Sep 1st, 2002 12:43 PM

"k" is right, we need to know your departure time (and time zone or city). Most flights from the US leave in the evening and arrive in London the next morning, so I'm inclined to give your TA the benefit of the doubt.

Watch out for confusion between AM and PM, especially with departure time, that might account for a mistake. Are you entering an AM departure rather than PM when you try out the BA site? Or are you going by flight number?

allx Sep 1st, 2002 12:44 PM

Poor you!
London is 5 hours ahead of New York City time. Does this help you figure out what date you arrive?

I hope you don't end up sleeping on bench in Hyde park!
When is the first night that you have your hotel reserved for??

Bob C Sep 1st, 2002 12:52 PM

Most (but not all) flights from the east and mid-west leave late afternoon and arrive in London the next morning.

Josie Sep 1st, 2002 12:58 PM

I leave Denver Colorado at 6:01PM and arrives at 10:05AM, and I looked in the BA site with my flight number.

starspinners Sep 1st, 2002 12:59 PM

Josie.. take a look at your e-ticket info or your actual paper ticket, whichever it is that you have.
Look at the arrival time, is there a +1 printed after the arrival time? That would indicate that you arrive the NEXT day after the day of your departure from the US.

Josie Sep 1st, 2002 01:00 PM

God, I hope there are some cardboard boxes left for me when I arrives there, allx.

Angie Sep 1st, 2002 01:01 PM

The same flights (#s) generally arrive/depart every day at the same time.

You arrive on the 3rd.

Josie Sep 1st, 2002 01:05 PM

The paper ticket Page 1 has the time and says 03 Sept. on it. So BA is mistaken....threw me in a frenzy. Thanks everybody!

starspinners Sep 1st, 2002 01:30 PM

Now go have a nice calming cup of tea. *S*
I just read the post where you told us your plane leaves at 6:01 PM tomorrow ..think of it this way, when you are leaving Denver it will ALREADY be 1:01 AM on Sep 3 in London. London time is 7 hours ahead of Denver time.
Have a great trip. *S *S*

Josie Sep 1st, 2002 02:16 PM

Starspinners,
I'm all settled down now with a soothing cuppa; it helps to keep a cool head and I knew all about the time difference, too; the way you explained it made it very clear...thank you...you a teacher perchance? I'm not a blond, but I'm sure I'll have lots of fun on my trip.

starspinners Sep 1st, 2002 02:22 PM

Josie.. Thank you for the kind words.
Just a fellow traveler here ..and I am making the trip to Gatwick in just a few weeks.
I 've been to the UK many times, one of my favorite places to be in October, the theAter, doncha know. *S*
Oh, by the way I AM blonde. <grin>

PEOPLE!!!!

This is a troll! I can't believe you actually took time to answer. This type of thread has been floated around on the fodors site many times.

Dear hearts are one thing, but get a grip.

Duh

Josie Sep 1st, 2002 10:49 PM

Duh:
Honest, I'm not a troll...just had a confused moment in all the last minute rush. I'll send you a postcard if you want; I leave in the morning.

getalife Sep 2nd, 2002 02:27 AM

You leave in the morning or 6:01 pm? Which is it? Nothing better to do at 2:00 am?

Jen Sep 2nd, 2002 03:25 AM

Perhaps she has to "leave in the morning" to catch some other flight to Denver? At any rate, these times are New York times, so when she posted at 2:49, it was 12:49 in Denver.

Josie Sep 2nd, 2002 04:57 AM

I was still waiting for my friend to call me about where to stay in London at 12:49AM and got done packing and recording my music at 1:59AM. I am now, at 6:51AM, checking my email and Fodors site for any changes to my flight schedule. I am eating my Cheerios at 6:55AM and will shower and be ready to go to the local airport at 9:45AM to proceed to Denver. Hopefully, I won't get bored over the 5 hour layover and fall asleep to miss my plane. If I do, I'll be posting here at 7:00PM. I'll try to check in regularly till I get back in a month. Cheers! It is now 6:58AM to be exact.
