Some help on travel itenary

I am in the planning stages for a Sept. trip to Portugal.I have planned for 4 nights in Lisbon to see the normal sightseeing things. We then fly to Madeira for a week-it is a time share. When we get back from Madeira we have 4 days to get to our timeshare in Albufeira. Here is my question-I know I want to go to Evora-but is 4 days too mcuh. Should we drive up to Obidos for a few days-then Evora for a few days??Or maybe just casually drive down the Alentenjo area?? Thank you all for your input & help. Chris

chris, you might mention where you are going in your title to (hopefully) get more replies.

Suze-Sorry I thought I was on the Portugal site-I have never added my own topic-just jumped in on others. If anyone sees this on the Portugal site and can offer some information I would love that. This site is so helpful-Chris

There is no Portugal site. Choosing a country is only important when a person searches. Otherwise, a title such as 'Need help for Portugal itinerary' would be best. ((*))

hey Chris, no problem. Good luck planning.

It's just all posts dump onto one general "Europe" board no matter what country you tag it for (that reference only helps when people use the search feature).

Obidos is tiny - one day but can be a good base for Batalha, Coimbra

Evora is IMO a one day thing as well and not much around in that desolate area except cork plantations

i'd do 2 days in Obidos or 3, drive via Evora going south perhaps

I am still suffering jet lag as I arrived home 11/20/07 from ( you guessed it ) Portugal. But maybe I can add a thought or two. If you want a good deal try www.pousadas.pt as there are some very good packages. I don't know if next Sept. is on them or how old you are(senior???) But my daughter and I had a car, 5 nights at pousadas,(Queluz, Obidos) 1 night at a quinta,(Quinta do Ortego) in Santiago de Cacem and 2 superb nights at Peastana Palace in Lisbon. the beaches of the Alentego are unbelievably beautiful. Hop on Hop off buses in Lisbon a must.I certainly would try to do all you mention but time will not allow. the drive from Lisbon down the coast will show you an area that is now protected from development by the Gov't...so no high rises, hotels or such. North of Lisbon, using Obidos as a center point you can see all the coastal towns, hit Tomar, Cohimbra etc..Be ready for wonderful surprises just around any corner. Try little restuarants, poke your nose through open doors. Drink ginja..Try it on ice cream also. Local wine can't be beat and I could go on and on..You will have a wonderful time and if you drive and lose your way all you do is go around the traffic circle again. Remember if the traffic sign doesn't tell you turn direction go straight ahead..Most people will be able to help you in English or get someone who can. Portugal is not big but very time consuming for sightseeing and rightly so.. Have a "bom" trip..

Amer_can-Thank you for your help and welcome home.I had been looking at the posadas and thought we would enjoy them-I am 61 & my husband is 73. I was thinking of the unpacking but wasn't sure about 4 days in Evora-I think it will be good to drive North for a few days and then stay in Evora on way to Algarve. We were in the Algarve in 89 and I knew I would be back to Portugal some day.I saw the Hotel Pestana Palace and it looked wonderful-did you use the www.posadas.pt.historichotels to book that as well???Thank you Chris
