Some Good Places to Watch the Euro 2012 in Dresden, Hamburg and Berlin

Ingo, quokka, Cowboy, anyone......

I will be in Hamburg, Dresden, and Berlin in about 7 -15 days and I would like to scout some places to watch the Euro Football matches in each city.

It doesn't have to be a Biergarten - I watched a World Cup game inside the Schrannenscheune, in Rothenburg, in 2006 and had one of the best afternoons of my life.

Can you recommend some indoor facilities, or Biergartens, in each city and perhaps provide a link to any public information posted about places to watch the games?

I would really appreciate any assistance. It's okay of the information is in German, the guy I am traveling with is from Bayern.

When are you leaving for Kanada, Cowboy?

Hi Aramis,

Dresden Tourismus has good information on public viewing. Here is the link to a pdf-file:
http://www.dresden.de/media/pdf/dtg/Public_Viewing.pdf

You can choose from student places, Irish pubs, beergardens, theatres and so on.

The obvious place is across the river from the old town where the movie nights take place. Huge screen, the old town silhouette as background. Most central, most lively (crowded) also. My favourites are the city beaches (puro beach more upscale and rather small) and Schillergarten.

Not listed is another favourite place of mine: http://www.konzertplatz.com/ This is in the upscale residential area Weißer Hirsch, highly recommended if summer kicks in with hot temperatures as it is in the woods, five minutes from the tram stop 'Plattleite'. Excellent food for a beergarden as it is run by the gourmet restaurant Bean & Beluga (typical beergarden food and decent prices, though).

Have fun!

Hi Aramis,

For Berlin, you can find a summary of the locations here:
http://www.berlin.de/fussball-em-201...iewing-berlin/

the most popular public viewing area is the "Fanmeile" between victory column and Brandenburg Gate. But it does attract huge crowds.
A more relaxed option could be the city beach near the central station.
Otherwise it will be almost harder to find a pub or beer garden which does not show the matches ;-)

Oh, and I will leave for Canada next week.

Aramis, I was in Germany during the World Cup 2010 and practically every restaurant and bar had set up TV sets in windows and on the sidewalk (outdoor seating) for customers. Even if you are not at the premium locations, if this is anything similar, you will be guaranteed a seat at a screen somewhere!
