I'm shopping on-line and just saw these. I have these shoes (I'm pretty sure this is the exact style) and they have served me extremely well for doing tons of walking on several European winter trips. They are on close-out. I have narrower feet and they work for me, so perhaps the person who was saying they run narrow is right.

Hi Julies-
It was me. I saw those yesterday and thought they might be the same ones you bought.
They are certainly tempting, though for $85 including shipping, still a bit steep in price for me. I hesitate to buy them because I hate the thought of paying $20 for shipping both ways if they don't fit.
I do like them though! ;-) Thanks for posting!

no offense takentraveler 1959--
But,from the perspective of my middle-aged traveler's feet, I could care if my shoes say I am an American (at least they are not white glow-in-the-dark sneakers). I can walk 12 miles a day, day after day after day without getting sore feet or blisters, and my feet don't get wet even if it is raining hard all day. That is what is important to me when I am taking a trip. And, I am an American not a local. Yes, I often look at what people are wearing and wonder how in the world they can walk in those high heels. Then I get realistic and tell myself that they are just going about their daily routines which are very different from the typical tourist routine that involves hours and hours of walking out in all kinds of weather.

Suze-they are $130+ on Zappos!
Traveler1959-I would tend to agree, but I find boots like that look decent with a pair of nice jeans over the tops. While I like cute shoes as much as anyone else, in the winter, warm, dry, comfortable feet are more important when walking all day. Plus, I don't think they really scream "I am a tourist". Maybe if worn with white socks and shorts they would.

Oh well, just a thought.
I buy expensive shoes so that price tag wouldn't stop me. I just don't care for the style. They don't look like they would be comfortable for my feet (they even look narrow and I like a more square toe box), but I'll take Julies word they work well for her!

That website has closeouts, so that's why the price will likely be cheaper than anywhere else. They only have certain sizes, for example.
They are pretty utiliarian, but for daytime walking around, I don't think they are so unusually bad. I can't see why someone would say they scream American, if anything, I'd say the opposite. A lot of Europeans wear tie walking shoes, it seems to me.

I probably could not use the above boots, because my feet are somewhat wide, but I liked ankle-high, waterproof Rockport boots that were fairly similar.
If the boots are ugly, that's too bad. I would have had worse problems trying to dodge acqua alta and walking on what essentially are elevated picnic tables, without such boots. The boots look decent. Without a fur coat, no woman is going to fit in, anyway.

Will Travel--you gave me a good laugh when you mentioned the fur coat. I have never in my life seen so many fur coats. Those of us who live in the US know tht PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has made great inroads against the fur coat industry. I didn't realize the situation was so different in Italy.
