Solo traveling to Rome
I'm planning a last minute trip to Rome and Amalfi Coast ( or somewhere south) for a week. Is it safe for a single female?
I'm thinking of 3 days in Rome and 3 day down south. Any suggestions for an itiernary and hotels? Thanks. |
anyone? :-)

Jules,
It might or might not be safe. It is such a general question that you ask. What's your hotel budget? Are you planning on sight seeing during the day? Going to clubs at night? Your safety is a question of he context you are in and your own awareness. WIthout more information, it's a little hard to address your question. I have traveled lots of times solo there, but I might have a different traveling style than you do. |
Hi Jules,
My last trip was 3 weeks solo in Italy. I wouldn't even think twice about it. As long as you have common sense, and use it as you would at home (if you do), then you'll be just fine. Buon viaggio! |
Of course it's safe as long as you use common sense.

I traveled from through Rome, Naples, to the Amalfi Coast solo, and it was perfectly safe. Just keep an eye on your things in the train station duh, but the people were fine, and a few Americans always lurking nearby. Just go and enjoy the beauty!

Italy is generally a very safe country. Yes, there are places where there are people who prey on tourists, but as the Italians would say, e normale. Obviously when 99.9% of the people are good, you still have to keep an eye out for the bad ones.
All the posts above make important points, so tell more about yourself and what you want from the week. Otherwise, you have to judge based on your own experience and knowledge of your self: if you have experience in large cities and are comfortable in them, score 1 point. If you have experience traveling and generally are comfortable maneuvering train stations and airports, score another. If you will speak up when you need information or help but don't feel "helpless" without a companion, score again. If you are the kind of person who will say "Grazie", "Per favore", "Buon Giorno" and "Buona Sera" even if you're a little unsure about the pronunciation at first, score one more point. Passing score: 3 Better score: 4 Buon viaggio! |
