Solo sightseeing
My husband will be at training school during the day and I will be left alone to sightsee - most likely with access to rental car. We are staying in Lauingen - about 1/2 hour northeast of Ulm. Where should I go during the day that would be safe and easy for someone who doesn't speak German?

first of all safety is not an issue in germany...get yourself a good guid-book and it will lead you through that area, depending on your interests...

I would get myself a german Rail Pass as you are not far from Ulm where you can make train connections to many interesting places. There is a rail line that passes through Lauingen. Get a map of Germany and find places you might like to visit. Go to www.bahn.de and click on International Guests and enter the info in the boxes provided and you might be surprised as to where you can go. I do this whenever I go to Germany. If you need any more help please ask.

hi there,
there are a lot of places in this area, depends a littel what You are interessted in. Ulm for shure (highest church in the world and nice old houses). Also Augsburg is worth to go. The valley of the river Danube is a nice place, perhaps to do a bike tour. IN the west there are Blaubeuren which is a must, and perhaps You follow the Danube up to Zwiefalten (try the beer at the monastier). Nice landscape here. Nördlingen to the north has the famous Nördlinger Ries (meteor crater) and the valley of the river Altmuehl (north-east) is a real nature part (visit the museum in Eichstaett). More? Just ask. have fun Gar |
Hi, I'm in the same sort of situation...My husband will be working in Wassburg (sp?)but I think we'll be based in Munich. We'll be there Sept. 16-24, and I will have access to a rental car. What would you recommend for me to do/see while he's working during the day? thanks for all of your help.
