Solo in Florence mid August
First time posting here.
I am traveling solo to Florence in mid-August for about 5 days. I'm a guy in my 40's and am curious if there are good places to meet up with other tourists (solo or not) to catch up on the day and what to see (or not to see). Not into the hooking up scene. Instead, just looking for people with common experiences. Any thoughts? Thanks |

Sometimes a good way to meet fellow travelers is to join a walking tour in the morning or afternoon. A lot of people will be eager to share with you what they've seen in Italy thus far, and make recommendations for what not to miss, and it is common for people to invite a solo travel to meet later for a drink or join them for dinner.
The center of Florence is filled with open air bars and caffes where you will see plenty of tourists enjoying a drink, and happy to converse. The same is true across the river in the Oltrarno bars, which are also favored by young Italians. If you overhear people speaking in English, most of them won't mind if you introduce yourself and ask about their travels. Most people love talking about their trips and travel plans. |
Thank you!

Any suggestions for websites?

I think the travel forums -- this one, tripadvisor, slowtrav etc. are a good start. There are also ex-pat forums that might be worth a look.
I've traveled solo plenty and never have trouble connecting with other travelers or locals -- casual cafes a particularly good spot but I love the suggestion above of joining a walking tour early in your stay. |
