solo female traveller to brussels

treating myself to a long weekend in brussels. received good suggestions from friends who have been to the city. i've been to europe, just not alone and wondering if anyone has suggestions of where to dine or drink solo with a chance of meeting people? i know the logistics about being careful and all, but would love to sit at a bar, enjoy a beer or two and meet new peeps. thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Around the Grand Place, there are a lot of places with outdoor terraces - if the weather is good, you can sit out. We found lots of people to chat with that way. We also found quite a few friendly pubs and small bars sort of north and northwest of the Grand Place - the places with live music tended to be the more friendly.

Yes, anywhere around the Grand Place area would be a good spot. Two specific bars I would recommend are A La Morte Subite and Le Cirio, both within a 5 minute walk of the GP. They are both historic cafes that have been around a while and popular with locals and tourists alike.

Good luck!

Highly recommend the Place-St.-Gery area for hip bars and cafes, as there are heaps. Easy to get to from central Brussels, really just a walk away. The Bourse area is a little seedy and you probably have to walk through there to get to this area but there will be lots of other people around so you would be in no danger. One of my favourite bars was Mappa Mundo,

There are also numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants in the Rue Jordan (near Louise), if you feel like venturing a little further afield.
