Solo female traveler looking for female traveler(s) in Athens & Santorini

Hi All,

I am new to traveling by myself but would be doing so to Athens. I have been to other European cities (such as Paris, Prague, and Berlin) but I am a bit weary in going to Athens by myself with all the pickpocketers and robberies I have been reading.

Therefore, I was wondering in there are other female travelers (solo or not) that would like like to meet up and we can look out for one another.

I am planning to be in Athens next Friday (April 20th) and am planning to stay there for 3-4 days before going to Santorini.

Also, aside from looking for another traveler, can anyone recommnend a safe area for hotels and which areas to avoid? Any body have horror stories regarding safety, pickpocketers, or any other experiences you like to share so I can have some tips to avoid similar situation?

Thanks in advance for you help

Sally

I have been to Athens several times solo. It is a safe city. Just take normal street smarts at night time.

Sally
where did you read about robberies?
Pickpocketing can happen everywhere in every big european city...
It is up to you to avoid it
Safest areas are in Plaka and Acropolis, there are plenty of good hotels there.
Finally i don't think that reading horror stories will be of any help... use common sense as i am sure you have in the other cities where you have been !!!
Apart from that, i have never heard of any horror stories regarding Athens.... i really don't understand why you are so afraid of being robbed, or pickpocketed especially in Athens....
Just relax, try to enjoy all the nice places Athens has to offer and you'll be fine

Thanks all for your response.

Chania, Thanks for the reassuring me =]

Clausar, I read it on various sites and many seems to have been robbed. Thanks for the tips. I'll look into Plaka and Acropolis a district for my hotel. =]
