Solo Female Travel Through Europe - Hostels
 

Hi all :)

I am planning a big 12 week trip through Europe next year and am hoping to stay in hostel accommodation to keep costs down. I am 30 and looking for hostels that are quieter as opposed to the party orientated ones. The places I will be travelling to are:

Munich
Prague
Vienna
Salzburg
Milan
Venice
Florence
Rome
Sorrento
Lake Como
Paris
Strasbourg
Spain - not sure of exact locations yet so all suggestions welcome!
Dublin
Edinburgh

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good hostels in these areas that would suit? Would appreciate any ideas/opinions :)

Suggest you spend some time with some guidebooks: Let's Go, Lonely Planet, Rough Guide. Also, visit eurocheapo.com, hostelbookers.com and hostelworld.com and read the reviews there with care. You could also look at B&Bs and pensions.

You might also have a look at some of the convents that offer rooms - that definitely solves the party problems and rates can be very reasonable.

For hostels, Hosteling International has a reputation of being very professionally run.

MmePerdu - that looks interesting. When it says "bathroom outside" is that a shared or private bathroom?

I had a private double room with a shared bathroom directly across from my door. But they have more than adequate facilities so I never had to wait for anything nor was there ever more than 1 other person in the bathrooms, usually no one. Toilets and basins in the room across and a large nice shower room down the hall. And more on another level.

I believe there are 1 or 2 double rooms ensuite.

My daughter (mid-20's) used HostelWorld.com to research and book hostels for two European trips. Like you, she wanted quiet, non-party hostels and she told me that the information she got by reading the reviews on HostelWorld helped her find exactly what she was looking for.

Many hostels have 6 people sharing a room. Do you want a private room? What is your per night budget?

Florence: My 25 year old daughter stayed at the Plus Hostel and recommends it. The all-you-can-eat breakfast cost &euro;5.00 a few years ago.

If you decide to stop in Dresden, and I recommend it, the Jugendherberge hostel is excellent. I stayed there. The breakfast is also an all-you-can-eat buffet.

If you decide to visit Berlin, my teenage daughter and I stayed at http://www.eastseven.de/ and really liked it. It was €27.00 in 2009.
