Solo dining in Prague
 

Hi all, I'll be going to Prague for 5 days and Cesky Krumlov for 2 days in a couple of weeks. I would like to try several restaurants while in Prague (e.g. Kampa Park restaurant and Mlynec) but I've read stories of how restaurants may turn away solo diners. Does anyone have experience with solo dining in Prague? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you. In the alternative, does anyone have any recommendations for solo-diner-friendly restaurants? Thanks!

I was there with my husband so cant comment on dining alone, but Ive traveled alot alone and it never been a problem to dine alone...lots of times people ask you to join them!
The Mlynec is fab, try to get a table near the water ,the brunch is awesome ,delicious and beautifully presented. No buffet here, each course is beautifuly served at the table, allow a couple hours. Then you can walk it off in this gorgeous city.

Threr is another restaurant , we stayed at the Hotel Ma Maison on Pachtuv Palace., which is Mozarts old house. It was incredible! The restaurant is just down the street near the Vlatava River ,it's R.M.Rilke(a Czech poet). We got the name from the hotel, I askd them where THEY liked to eat.We went twice, I am afoodie and it was FABULOUS! If you like diuck(as my husband does and has eaten all over the world) they make a certain # a day and thats that. Its small and the food, including strudel could not be any better. Moderately priced and very pleasant people.

Kampa Park is excellent..river voiews if I recall...you might also want to try The Golden Pear (Zlaty Hruska)..a short walk from Hradcany Castle..many of the legistlators have their lunch here. We had been at Havel's press conference (we "crashed") and later there he was at the restaurant. I believe I saw some solos dining at both those places.

Another is The Red Wheel in old town, and "David" in Mala Strana next to the US Embassy.

The Three Musicians (U Tri Houslicek) is on Narodny on the way up the steep hill to Hradcany is oustanding, ambience and food.

Frankly, I have never heard of any Czech restaurant refusing to serve singles. The nerve of those %^^&^*$^& !

My fav restaurant in Prague was Joseph in Mala Strana.

Don't know if it is still open.

I must have eaten on my own in Prague dozens of times,never been turned away yet.
The common policy in the Hospodas(thats bar/resturants and the type of place i frequent) is usually to share a table ,don't worry the wait staff will not confused the bills.
What dates are you there ,I am in the city from the 23rd-30th May , primarly for the beer festival but doing quite a few other things.
The bar of the Archibald hotelU Krlova Mosta (on Kampa Island )will happily serve you, but really it should not be an issue.
