Sohia wants to know about Picadilly Line

I had posted earlier question about Heathrow to Crowne Plaza Hotel, The City. And got some interesting answers, including one for "just airports" and got a price of RT to and from heathrow of 64 GBP - not bad! I just looked a tube map though, and ask the following. If I took the Picadilly line from Heathrow and were to get off at S.Kensington, Green Park, Picc Circus, Leicester Sq, or Holborn, would taxis be available from any of them? It looks like the hotel is not a great distance from any of those stations? And do any of them have fewer steps or escalators to the street? Thanks!

You can hail a cab on the street just about anywhere. However, your hotel is not near any of the tube stations you mention. Are you looking at a tube map and thinking the distances are to scale? They aren't

If you are going to use the tube, the directions you got before (Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith, then District line to Blackfriars) makes more sense. The hotel is a short walk from the tube station

But if you want to stick to the Piccadilly line - then get off at Holborn - That would be the shortest taxi ride . . .

South Ken is so far away from EC4, it'd almost certainly be about as cheap to get a Just Airports car from Heathrow.

The other three locations have lots of taxis, but aren't that easy to hail taxis at with luggage. Picc Circus, Green Park and Leicester Square require you to negotiate a staircase.

The easiest thing to do is stay on the tube to Kings Cross St Pancras where there's a proper taxi rank -even though you might hit a short staircase. There IS a way of avoiding staircases there: follow the signs to the Circle Line, then seek out the lifts to St Pancras, then follow the signs for the St Pancras taxi rank.

Or change to the District Line at Hammersmith. But then you hit stairs at Blackfriars.

just to thrown another kink into the mix - the Blackfriars tube stop is going to close the day I arrive and be closed until 2011! Any idea how much a taxi would be from Holborn??

I'm very familiar with Holburn Tube stop as I often stay at a hotel 1/2 block away.

There are very few steps to negotiate, if any.

Assuming you don't want to change lines, which is difficult with luggage, Janis' advice to stay on the Picadilly line to Holborn is "spot on" as some Brits would say.

There are taxis (black cabs) everywhere--you should probably exit on to High Holborn street, cross the street and then hail a taxi so that you're headed east but that isn't really necessary.

Just a guess on price, around 10 pounds.
