Sognefjord vs Geirangerfjord
Which fjord to choose - Sognefjord vs Geirangerfjord? We are spending only about 3 days in between Copenhagen and Oslo to see the fjords. Either we go:
fly to Bergen
ferry to Balestrand
fjaerland glacier tour
bus to Flam
Train to Olso
OR
fly to Alesund
ferry to gerainger
bus (?) to Andalsnes
train to Oslo.
Any advice? I have heard the Naeroyfjord is the "most stunning" of the fjords. But also we are both architects and interested in the fjord overlooks that have been built recently - for this Trollstigen seems much more interesting, except for the part about being stuck in traffic on hairpin turns. Any advice appreciated!
thanks,
Anna

Both are beautiful. Personally I would choose the Geiranger fjord and lose Flåmbanen. You can take a ferry from Hellesylt to Geiranger that sails the length of Geiranger fjord.
One approach could be to take Fjordekspressen via Stryn from Bergen to Hellesylt, take the ferry to Geiranger and from there take the bus to Bergen. Will take you a long day.

Geirangerfjord has more tourists in that the big cruise boats come there. When we were there, two big cruise ships were anchored at the same time.

I did the Songnefiord last summer and it was fine. Can't speak to the other one as I did not do it.
I basically did the first itinerary and then went on to a home exchange in Fredrikstad (south of Oslo about an hour).
