Soccer Matches in Italy
 

My boyfriend and I play soccer (football)here in the States and would LOVE to see a game (or two) in Italy. The problem is I don't know anything about the leagues over there and who we should be seeing. <BR> <BR> Our trip is from November 9-20. We plan on being in Rome, Florence and Venice with a trip to another undecided place (maybe Sorrento). We are willing to juggle our schedule so that we can be in the right place at the right time to see a match. <BR> <BR>Does anybody have a recommendation as to who to see for a GREAT match (meaning not just your favorite team...although we'll take that into account and route for them)? So far I've had difficulty understanding the internet schedules of the Serie A league (who's home, who's away, when they're playing.) <BR> <BR>I'd appreciate any help at all. <BR>Jen

Jen.. <BR> <BR>The major soccer league in Italy is the Serie A, in which the best teams play. <BR>In Florence the team is called Fiorentina. In Rome there are two teams, Roma and Lazio, so you can be reasonably certain that one of them will be playing at home each weekend. <BR>Most games are played on Sundays. <BR>In Venice, their team Venezia, got relegated to the second division last season. <BR>Their is an Australian web site that will give you the fixtures in English. <BR>Go to www.theworldgame.com.au and then click Serie A in the left hand index, then click fixtures. The teams mentioned first for each fixture are the ones playing at home. <BR>Tickets are not easy to get, so try and book early. Your hotel concierge may be able to help here. <BR>During November there will probably be extra games midweek as the top teams also play in the European Championships, against clubs from other countries. Check this out at your hotel on arrival.

Jen <BR> <BR>I've never found tickets hard to get - even for derby games (such as the Milan or Rome derby). Many big teams from the same city share grounds thus one HAS to use the stadium every sunday (eg Milan, Inter and Roma & Lazio, Torino & Juventus etc). <BR> <BR>Touts at every game I've ever attended in Italy, both Serie A and Serie B matches. If you're new to the country I would suggest a trip to one of the Northern cities such as Milan or Turin, leave Naples or Salerno for another time. <BR> <BR>My sis is a big soccer fan and lives in Italy so if you need any help just email me. <BR> <BR>Tony
