So how about Sorrento?!!

I am a 19 yr old Au pair moving with the family I work for down to Sorrento, Italy. We are trying to figure out what restaurants to go to, must sees, night life, fashions, shopping, and, for me, an english speaking evangelical church to go to! What did you love about Sorrento and the surrounding areas!? I'd love to hear it!

thank you!

Sorrento is a fairly small town - and I;ve only been there is summer season when it's very lively. Don;t know what it's like off season.

Must sees in the area are Pompeii, Herculeum, archeological museum in Naples and all the cute little towns down the Amalfi Coast.

Also - not sure you will find any English speaking churches - never mind evangelical. But Naples is much larger and you might find something there.

Paestum is another excellent, often forgotten, "sight" to add to your list.

Here's a video of its Doric Greek Temples dating back to 1000 BC:

Pane e tulipani (Bread and Tulips) is an excellent movie about area.

and do enjoy lots of genuine bufala di Mozzarella:

How about some coral jewelry from Torre de Greco?

And of course shopping - go right into Naples and find the most fashionable Made In Italy brands:

Enjoy!

motorino man, it has been a while since I've seen it but I thought Pane e Tulipani was set in Venice.

Love your website.

Pane e Tulipani is one of my favorite movies, and it is set in Venice.

WebVisionItaly Sep 9th, 2008 06:02 AM

It is set in Venice but it is at the beginning of the movie when she is in Paestum and the guide is talking about the glories of the ancients that she is inspired to drop the routine life.

I should have said "see the movie to see this area's affect on visitors." In Pani e Tulipani the effect is hitchhiking to Venice. Who knows what the effect will be on Mary Poppins...!

Thanks for checking out the site - it is a labor of love!

I think you're going to love Sorrento. When we visited in the summer, it was full of young tourists and the old town was really alive at night. Also the location is ideal for exploring Capri, Naples, and the Amalfi Coast. Have fun!
