Hello Fans of Wales, On our trip we will spend three days in Wales. I was planning to climb Snowdonia on one day but it will take a whole day. Would you rec taking train up to free up time for other walks? If we should hike up Snowdonia there appears to be several routes to choose from. For interesting views which route is recommended. We are healthy active adults but no mountain climbers. M

Well, you can walk up the back side on a path which isn't much steeper than what you would find in a city park. We followed a woman in a skirt with two small children. She had no difficultly. Now on the other side are faces where people trained for Everest. If you are on that side, you are in the wrong place!

We also devoted 1 day but did not make it up to the top (it wasn't our intent). We took the steeper route and it was steep (we also didn't get an early enough start). Allow driving and parking time in your planning (we had to park 1 stop down from the trail head and bus in).

If I were to do it again, I'd go up the longer/shallower path and down the steeper path. I think that would give enough variety so you wouldn't feel like you were "only" doing 1 walk.

Llanberis Path is not the shortest but is easiest incline. Pyg and Miner's Track are most famous routes but require EXTRA care.

Walk up and take the train down. Allow time for unexpected changes in weather. It was fine when we started out but near the top a dense fog settled in and you couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you, and at that point you definitely want to see where you are going.
