Snow in Vienna
Coming to Vienna from Maryland between Christmas and New Year. Curious how much snow I should expect if any at all.Does the snow or cold weather make it that much harder for tourists to navigate the city. I love to walk cities will the weather interfere with seeing all the sights. Thank you very much.

I was in Vienna a few years ago in mid November and there was about four inches of snow. It didn't really slow down our navigation. The city is beautiful under a blanket of snow.

It is normally unlikely that you will see snow in any large amounts during this time.
Vienna does not receive large amounts of snow. When this infrequently happens , it is quickly removed. Various laws in Vienna and Austria require property owners to remove snow within specific time after a snow or face a large fine. Public streets , pedestrian zones have snow removed efficiently by city and private workers. Public transport operates usually in a normal fashion. Worst problems can be frozen swiches at interchange points with the strassenbahn- streetcars. When this occurs , the driver can usually quickly fix this. If my memory is good the last snow at Christmas was perhaps 5- 7 years ago. So hopefully you have no troubles for your walks |
hi jeffyj
a few years ago we went to Prague and Budapest between Christmas and New year in successive years. in both of them were was snow, but because they are used to it, it doesn't stop anything. the traffic ran smoothly, the pavements were swept. i suppose that there may be problems if there were very large amounts of snow but otherwise, you should have no problem. have a great trip regards, ann |
