Snorkeling at Easter

Hi

I have 2 weeks annual leave booked for Easter (25 Mar to 11 Apr) and would like to take a holiday that includes snorkeling.

We live in the UK, probably flying from Leeds or Manchester and we (two of us) would not like to exceed two grand for this Easter treat.

Egypt, Red Sea would have been an obvious destination but with recent events I'd rather not. Can anyone recommend a short of mid-hall destination that would include a nice beach with some interesting aquatic life that I can bother?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Steve

Snorkeling is diving with bottles, right ?
(no bottles is scuba diving ?)

If so, I've some good friends who like to dive around Cavalaire and La Croix Valmer.

Some interesting sealife and some wrecks.
Several ships, a submarine, some leftover (quite rsuty I've been told) from landings in 44.

Here an example - can't remember if Eperlan is the one I was recommended.

Not in europe - won't really be beach weather. Even in southern Spain that begins mid to late April.

Forgot to say that Cavalaire is in southern France, close to St Tropez.

Convenient airports close are :

Toulon - some seasonal flights -Ryanair is there, as is Jetairways and ?
Marseille (2 ours drive) and Nice (2 hours drive).

Weather is usually nice at Easter - we manage to go into the sea, but ...

Around Easter the Côte d'Azur would not be warm enough.

I would recommend either the Canary Islands or Greece (e.g. Rhodes).

you got it backwards. Scuba diving is with air tanks and snorkeling is just fins/mask . . .

There is no 'interesting aquatic life' in Europe if you're used to go snorkeling in the Red Sea. In March/April it will also be too cold, even in southern Europe.

Have you considered Jordan? Aqaba (Tala Bay) is nice. Or Israel (Eilat)? Those are both on the Red Sea too, and although the Sharm/Marsa Alam area in Egypt has much better underwater marine life, snorkeling is okay in both Jordan and Israel.

Another thing to consider: terrorism happens anywhere in the world. Don't let fear rule your life.

Thanks Janisj

Then scrap my suggestion - to see the wrecks you need bottles. And if you 'only' do snorkeling, then it is quite cold, indeed.
