Sneem

Has anyone been to Sneem? What did you think of it and what is it like?

Similar to Dingle in the 1970's before tourism and the dolphin a nice quiet Kerry fishing village with a few bars and a couple of restaurants. easy enough to get to Kenmare but not really a touring base.

It was nice, not too bad. We really enjoyed the public sculptures.

Was planning on staying there 5 days and hoping to relax, possibly kayak (in January?)Do the Ring of Kerry, but I don't want to be bored. Would like some nightlife. Any suggestions besides Kenmare?

Prefer a small town without a lot of tourism. Just some pubs!

January you are not going to get much tourism..Killarney would be my choice as there will be life and options without the abundance of fellow tourists summer brings. I have a strong dislike for Dingle town, possibly because I remember when it was like Sneem but it might be an option in January as Killarney. Why not Kenmare?

We were just there in October and it is a very small town. Can't imagine five days there. Tour buses stop there on the ROK run. The other towns suggested would be a better option.

I like Kenmare. I spent a few days there in May with my son. He left me on my own most nights and it's difficult for a woman to hang in a pub alone. So I was hoping for somewhere with outdoor things to do as he is coming with me again and will no doubt do the same to me! haha Killarney seems too big for me,unless it was all the tourists that we ran into last May. I like a smaller town with regular people that live there.

I spent a week stuck in Killarney (long story) February 07 and had a great time with the locals, bumped into maybe half a dozen tourists and that was because I was staying in the Eviston and had to walk through the Danny Mann bar to get to Tattler Jacks and O'Connors.

Strong dislike for Dingle? It's perfectly lovely and I quite enjoyed both trips there (last in 2010 for three weeks). I was able to see quite a bit of the Peninsula, and several points in West Cork.

Winter seems to be a down time anyway in that area, I don't think you'd be overwhelmed with tourists no matter where you land.
