SNCF train tickets
 

Hi
This may be a 'dumb' question. I have just printed out train tickets to take us from CDG airport to Avignon.

Once we get to the train station do we need to do anything (e.g. have our tickets validated anywhere) before getting on the train or is this done on the train??

Also, I am sure I am correct but can someone just confirm that the train station at CDG is Roissy?

Hello huett, I am sure someone more knowledgable than me on this board will respond but we have done this twice and no, you just get on board (the right carriage and seat) and then have them ready to be checked on the train.
And yes, Roissy is CDG.

many thanks - had a bit of a panic attack - as to whether I had got the stations right.

You printed the ticket yourself so it must be a ticket for yourself (with your name & probably birthdate on it) and for a cetain train with a reserved seat. Then you don't need to validate or anything before getting on board. As suggested above just go to your can/seat. Validation is needed for the usual tickets that you buy at stations or receive by post.

Sice you have your ticket printed out, you need only to show it to the conductor.

Many thanks everyone. We will be arriving on a Friday night, spending our first night at the Marriott hotel near the CDG airport and taking the train to Avignon the next morning.

I am assuming it will be fairly easy to get a taxi/shuttle to the train station from the hotel. Any idea how much time we should allow?

Check the hotel website, the French word for shuttle is Navette.
If you need to look up the distance, use Google maps or www.viamichelin.com

I always want to get to a TGV station at least 30 minutes before departure (and since I always build in extra time due to possible traffic problems or problems at the station, I am usually before that). The hotel would be a good one to ask how much time to allow. I don't know where that Marriott is, but I'd leave the hotel at least one hour before the departure time. If it's some hotel shuttle and you don't know how many stops or where, that might make a difference.

The reason you don't have to compost your ticket is because it is non-exchangeable and nonrefundable, not because it is for a specific reservation or your name. It says so right on the tickets in the Conditions d'Utilisation. "ce titre est dispense de compostage". Other tickets will say that you must compost them, it is usually near the top, I believe "a composter avant l'acces au train". Composting means sticking it in a machine that marks the date/time of usage.
