SNCF strike 2018 spring :-(
My French friend warned me about likely upcoming SNCF strike(s).
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-f...-idUSKCN1GB148 She read in a French language paper that the strike might go on for a long time. |
Yes, there are many of them expected in the next couple of months, including a huge one on March 22. Here is the calendar for February. You can see March by clicking on Mars at the top right of the page.

A strike announced doesn't always happen. So far it is just a strike notice, which can be revoked at any time. Since the polls are showing 70% support of the government's position on the current issue (ending some of the special privileges for employees hired in the future without touching those of current employees), the unions might start having second thoughts.
|
The news I just heard on the radio said that the unions have decided not to make any decision about a strike until March 15th, which is the day after the government will announce its specific plans (after consultation with the trade unions).
As for strike already planned in other domains on 22 March, it is already looking like that will mostly fizzle, too. |
They so often fizzle, but it's worth noting when they plan them if you're traveling. Your plans can equally just get de-railed by a late train having nothing to do with a strike. Our train from Toulouse to Agen was 40 minutes late today.
|
And my train from Biarritz last week was 70 minutes late for technical reasons.
If the wintry weather keeps up, there will be more travel disruptions. |
Topping as could be vital to someone's trip plans!
