SNCF - Have they changed their site?

I went to www.sncf.com, hit the flag for "English", hit the 'information, schedule and booking' and it took me to a different page in french. Normally when I hit these buttons the site takes me to the page where I enter in my information in order to pull up train schedules and prices. Is anyone else experiencing this problem ... or maybe SNCF changed their site? If so, how do I get the English page?

Thanks!

It's working fine for me right now. Exit the site and try again?

katzen May 1st, 2006 03:59 PM

Thanks Lesli. I have exited the site as well as shut down my computer (Apple MAC) and I'm still having the same problem. It may be my computer although I've never had this problem before. Strange.

I've posted the link that I get ..

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/FR/indis...me_indispo.htm

Let me know if you get something other than a page in French. Thanks!

Perhaps you can get there from this link?

katzen May 1st, 2006 05:00 PM

Lesli, Thanks ... but I did click on that link you posted and it took me to the same french page. So strange!! I have no idea what is going on. It must be my computer. Thanks for helping!!

Purge your cache and try it again.

katzen May 1st, 2006 05:25 PM

Thanks Robespierre, I tried that too and it didn't work. I've emptied the cache and reset Safari. :(

This was the latest message I received:

"Failure of server APACHE bridge:
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds."

Do not despair. The sncf site has more belly aches and spasms than just about any site I know of. Somehow, someway they will get it right again just so they can have fun confusing us with a new problem.

I ran into the same problem. Fortunately I can read about 6 words of French and I was able to stagger through.

You can also try starting at http://www.voyages-sncf.com and then click on the british flag near the bottom left of the page.

I have noticed that sometimes the site gives me this kind of headache when it is very late, say after midnight French time.

Just guessing, but it is possible that they are doing system maintenance on the site/database, and only limited service is available.

In any case when I checked just now (it is 13:28 French time, within normal operating hours) everything is as per normal. Hope it is for you too.

****update: nope, after working awhile I have a message that the system is inaccessible. (13:45 French time).

Another great theory destroyed by an inconvenient fact....

It's now Tuesday morning (USA Time)and I'm at work on a PC. I'm still not able to get on. Below is a little of what is on the page I keep getting after I click on the British flag and hit information & Booking (which is in English) .. then I get this:

MorganB .. very odd .. I went to the link you sent me, hit the British flag and got the same exact thing. Very puzzling!

ira May 2nd, 2006 08:07 AM

Hi K,

At www.sncf.com click on "les sites" in the upper right corner for train schedules.

It's easier to go to www.voyages-sncf.com and click on the flag at the lower left.

ira May 2nd, 2006 08:08 AM

PS,

I did it your way, and the schedule page came up.

katzen May 2nd, 2006 09:18 AM

Ira, it worked!! Finally. I tried that last night and it did not. For the past few months I've been typing in www.sncf.com, hitting the British flag, booking and info and it takes me right there. Very odd .. .but I'm happy I was able to get on again.

Thank you everyone for your help!
