Smorgasbord @ Grand Hotel

Worth the splurge? $ 55 Dan kroner, @ Stockholm's only 5 star hotel. What ya' think? We only have 3 nights in Stockholm.

We had dinner there last summer and really loved it. We looked at the buffet first and decided to opt for the a la carte instead.(so many people stretching arms over the food)
The food was exquisite and we would go back again if we are in stockholm.
Book a window table for the view of the harbour.

Hi NNY,

Is that $55 or 55 Dan Krone?

If it is DK, why aren't they charging in Swedish Krone ($8)?

My neice had the smorgasbord there a couple of years ago and said it was fabulous. We wanted to go when we were there this last January but alas, they were not serving it until Feb. If it were me, I would go for sure.

Oops. Sorry. I meant Swedish kroner. Typed this question way too early in the morning!

Hi NNY,

If it's only 55 SK, why are you concerned?

Are you sure it's not 55 USD?

Yes, 55 USD! I shouldn't type before I've had my coffee! Thank you all for your responses. We made reservations.

Hi NNY,

Now that you are going to this very elegant smörgåsbord, you have to learn the rules for partaking.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smorgasbord

It is particularly important that you you have one glass of Snapps with each course, and that you toast (skål) everyone at the table at least once.

Do not attempt to drive home. :)

Have a nice visit.

Well, we've been there and back...and are oh so happy that we decided to go ahead and splurge on the smorgasbord @ the Grand Hotel! Sure, we could have had it elsewhere (we are great food in both Stockholm and Copenhagen), but it was beautiful eating at the Grand Veranda Restaurant, in an enclosed veranda overloooking the beautiful canal in front of the hotel. We ate like pigs, washed it all down with some good beer, and then walked it off. Wonderful evening.

Thanks for the update, NNY.

OK, now I understand why the price of salmon went up recently -- supply and demand. You really put a dent in the supply!

Thanks for letting us know. I am so sad we couldn't go there. It was at the top of my list for things to do in Stockholm. Glad you enjoyed.
