Smoking bans in London Pubs?

I know the smoking ban postings have been done to death, and I don't want to stop world war 3. I just want someone, who lives in England, to tell the present situation about smoking bans in LONDON PUBS. I am returning to London in September this year, and I like to have a few pints of ale in the evening, without cigarette smoke. I gave away smoking years ago. I don't hold grudges against smokers, as I remember, the addiction, and the time it took to give it up.
Just a quick reply would be great.

I'd like to know if this is true as my husband still smokes and we're leaving for England in 17 days.
I understand some people not wanting or liking secondhand smoke but I don't understand the ban in bars. To me it's like saying "we're banning urinating in bathrooms".
But hey, that's just me.

Tropo:

I answered this question for you several hours ago (http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...2&tid=34558429)

You've been around this board long enough to know how to search your own name.

So what is it? Don't trust the word of an Irishman then?

Thanks flanner, I hadn't seen that post. And I always trust the word of an Irishman, my father is Irish.

I think that all the JD Wetherspoons pubs have no smoking sections.I know that they will ban all smoking in their pubs by May 2006.

Flanner, sorry about the mix up, with my postings.
I guess I will just have to buy a six pack of beer, and take it home to my B&B.
If your Irish, then you must be excited, to have smoking bans in the Irish Pubs, lucky you.
TudorPrincess - Smoking generally in pubs, became an accepted practise, as most people back then smoked. Now with more & more people giving up smoking, then, it will be the "accepted practise" to disallow smoking. We living in a changing world.

The Blackfriar is non-smoking - and it's a gorgeous art-nouveau pub:

...and here's a list of some others:

G_Hopper: Funny, I was going to give that link too!

You don't say where you are going to be staying so probably your best bet is to do a search on sites such as www.beerintheevening.com

I know there's a pub just by Leicester Square (on Lisle Street) called the Polar Bear which is no-smoking (has a lot of sports screens etc) but can't find any great information on it.

There are a fair amount with no smoking areas though, just not many that are totally smoke free, I'm afraid.
