Miriam -

She didn't say ALL smokers do it - she said MANY. Everytime I've brought this up with a smoker, no one EVER admits to throwing ONE butt on the street, yet they are everywhere. Nor have I have seen a smoker gingerly carrying a finished cigarette butt between their fingers until they reach the nearest waste bin.

Marion: Ed beat me in suggesting this might be the right time for your friend to quit. I smoked for many, many years (off now three years in March) and dreaded long flights after smoking was banned. Even before actually because my husband had to sit in nonsmoking and I would try to switch seats with someone in smoking, etc., etc., etc.

Honestly don't mean to preach (like some of the above), but I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders, especially living in California. It was a nightmare to try and smoke in any public place and ceased smoking in my house years ago for my husband's health. Think of the money saved; if you set it aside for a year it could actually pay a large portion of the next trip.

Just my opinion.
j
