Yo, <b>bigal</b> -

Go to the icons page http://fodors.com/forums/smileys and pick the clip you want to insert, such as :o)

Note that the character string next to this icon is :o)

Come back to the board and type the code into the text.

Isn't this thread on the Europe board? I won't use the peace sign if it's offensive to some cultures.
Although, I do remember the way Churchill used it, as a similar gesture to mean victory.

Any Europeans out there who can say? Would this icon be upsetting to some:
:)&gt;- ??

Well putting your fingers in that position over an Italian males head means that his wife is cheating on him. Other than that I don't know, lol.

I think ndf321 is misunderstanding the English V-sign, that is, with the knuckles facing the person to be insulted (the other way round from what you call the peace sign and what was used in during WW2 to indicate V for Victory).

The story is that in the long mediaeval wars with France, captured English bowmen's pulling fingers were cut off. So before a battle their replacements would demonstrate to the French that their fingers were intact and their bows as deadly as ever.

The peace sign is not offensive in Europe as far as I'm aware. The &quot;cuckold&quot; sign on the continent is done with the index and little finger extended and the two in between folded into the palm, so there's no confusion there.

Soldiers didn't cut off the fingers of their foe.

Patrick, thanks for the correctiing and clarifying the earlier post.

Sounds like I'm good to go, then, using the peace sign below.

Now I have to remember to type it into my posts. Is there a way to make those four keystrokes easier? (What a lazy question!)
