SmartCards in Europe?

Does the American Express Blue card have the same kind of chip as the European credit cards? If so, will it work the same?

I don't know about AE but my Capital One card that I got a few months before going to Ireland in 2007 didn't have one (rhetorical why?). They just scanned my card like our cards are scanned over here.

Does your American Express Blue card have a 4 figure PIN with it?
Why not aske AmEx about it?
You should also be aware that some retailers in Europe do not accept American Express credit cards, only Visa or Mastercard.

Well we don't have an AmEx card currently. My husband and I are applying for a new credit card for a reason unrelated to our travel, and we had been considering an AmEx card. I have scoured their info on the website and can't find any answer to my question. I don't have a number to call since I don't have a card, but perhaps I will try and dig up a number somewhere. Thanks!

We have been to Europe a few times but have not had any "special" credit card. We take a credit and a debit card. My question is: is there one card that is BETTER than another? Any suggestions?

Thanks
