Smart Price Train tickets

Author: MarieC

My two teenage daughters hope to travel from Paris to Rome without breaking the bank. I see Smart Price couchette tickets available for 35E - 60E. The desired date of travel is June 19th. We live in the US. They plan to travel for about a week in Europe before the desired train trip to Rome. They will stay at hostels and so will not have a European address. I have purchased trenitalia tickets via the internet before, but never for travel outside Italy. Is there a way to buy these tickets via the internet? Or are we stuck with waiting for them to land in Europe and hope some are still available. The price of a regular couchette is too much without the Smart Price discount is too much.

Easyjet has flights (morning or afternoon) on that date from Paris Orly to Rome Ciampino for 17.99E one way + taxes of 20E. 75.98E for 2 tickets.

Thank you. I have considered easy-jet. I don't know how they'd get to Orly or from Ciampionon into Rome. I know I need to do a bit more checking. Also, I have read about high prices for checked luggage.

Smart Price tickets sell out very quickly - they are not available in unlimmied numbers. Have you considered other kinds of youth railpasses?

Hi M,

>Is there a way to buy these tickets via the internet?

I don't think so.

Trenitalia says:
PLEASE NOTE: your tickets can be delivered only to addresses in Italy.
and
You can collect your ticket:
At the counters marked with the logo at ticket desks in Italian train stations

>I don't know how they'd get to Orly ...

See www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/

There is bus service to Rome from Ciampino, but I'll have to let someone else give you the details.
