Small towns in Dolomites

Looking for quaint towns and B&B in and near Bolzano, small village of Cles, lago Santa Guistiana. Restaurant recommendations as well. Second week of August.

Wendy - For somewhere quaint close to Bolzano (- 45 mins), consider Castelrotto. It makes a delightful base for that area.

Hope this helps ...

We have reservations at Hotel Wolf in Castelrotto. We have read wonderful reviews and have had great and prompt communications from them. We are going to be there September 15 through September 19, 2006. Are you looking for help for this year or 2007? We will post a trip report when we return. Shirley

I followed Steve's earlier suggestions and looked at both Ortisei and Castelrotto. Just a couple of weeks ago, we ended up staying in Ortisei and loved the town. When we made a quick trip to Castelrotto to check it our for the future, we found it to be much less interesting (at 6:00 p.m. and thereabouts, there was almost no one out and about).

This experience may not be typical, but we thought Ortisei was mucn more vibrant.

Thanks, Steve James, for the suggestion and your others about the Dolomites.

JD - Glad you liked Ortisei too. I love that place - my favourite village in the Dolomites!

I'm already planning my next trip
