Small town inns in northern Belgium, Netherlands and Germany

We are planning a trip in which we drive in a lazy circle around northern belgium, netherlands and germany for four weeks or so. This will probably be in spring 2006, as we want to do some tulip peeping.

Does anybody have any first hand experience of cozy B&Bs or inns which meet the following criteria:

1. must be easy to get to in a car, with parking reasonably accessible.
2. must have triple room
3. must have private bathroom
4. must have some charm and zero grot.
5. somewhere in the 2 or 3 star price range.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You might try the Hotel de Fortuna in Edam, Netherlands. I think it should meet all your criteria. It's been a few years since I stayed there, but it had lots of charm and absolutely no grot.

Another place I can recommend which meets your needs is the Hotel de Campveerse Toren in Veere, an old seaport on Walcheren in the Netherlands. The hotel is right on the water in a building dating from 1400. Veere would make a good stop if you want to travel from the Netherlands to Belgium by way of the Delta route.

In Bruges, I have stayed at various times at the Fevery, De Pauw and Rembrandt-Rubens and can recommend them, but there is no shortage of accommodation there.

It might be a bit too far south as you mentioned you would be travelling in northern Belgium, but you really should visit Durbuy in the Ardennes, a very attractive town. We stayed at Le Clos des Recollets, which I can recommend.

You will want to exercise some caution in Northern Belgium as Tulip peeping as against the law.

Oops, sorry. I assumed Belgium was like Amsterdam and very permissive vis a vis peeping.

Laverendye: thanks for all those great suggestions. First hand recommendations make all the difference.

We stayed in a beautiful private home in Lisse (right near Keukenhof Gardens) and it sounds like it would fit your needs perfectly. The house is almost new and is secluded with woods on one side and tulip fields on the other. They only have three rooms, so I'd check into making reservations fairly early. We were served an elegant breakfast each morning either in the dining room or on the patio overlooking the flowers. The owners are wonderful and work hard to make you feel welcome. Gee, can you tell I really loved the place? :) We stayed there for a week and it was a perfect base to travel around central Holland.

The only place to find them on the web is at http://www.bedandbreakfast.nl/ and type in the city of Lisse. They are the only B&B listed there. The priced listed is still 65-75 euros.

Dang, forgot to mention the name of the place. It's called Wassergeest. Sorry about that!

I don't know what the 2 or 3 star price range is, but if you go to see Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles in the village of Hohenschwangau, there are some very nice pensions with private baths, breakfast, and free parking.

We stayed at this one:

Don't know whether or not they have any triples.

A nice castle hotel in Colmberg (near Rothenburg o.d. Tauber) also with free parking and breakfast:

Finally, on the Mosel in the little village of Beilstein:

Again, not sure which, if any, have triples, but they can all be reached by email.
