So many delightful hotels in Paris. I recommend the Dauphine Saint Germain. Five minute walk to the Seine and Notre Dame. In the heart of the 6th. |

What exactly is a "moderate budget".. for me its about 100-130 euros( cheap for me is under 100 ) .. but for my friend it would be 150-200 euros.. and yet my daughters moderate would be under 100 euros.. ( keeping in mind a hostel would be less then 50).. so you see.. what exactly is moderate. Hotels like L'Aubusson would be my choice.. but at 250-300 0r more a night. not moderate for me. but likely moderate for others..

But we are not on TA here with some people keeping asking - hi, budget ? - how many nights ? - when ? - ah, ok ... I can't answer but I'm sure others will... (If you see what I mean) So, yes 'small hotel' is to be taken as low end, but clean, and I thinks that's waht people mostly answered, and to the OP to check and make a final decision. The hotels I recommended are all around 100 e - Paris is not as expensive as it is sometimes said, and if you find a small hotel and are staying a short stay or willing to move hotels every other day, you can get exceptionnal deals on booking.com or hotels.com or direct. Of course when my wife goes to Paris, I up my budget and we are closer to 150 e/night... We can sometimes get good deals and sleep in very good 4 stars (like the Mac Mahon) for 200 €/night coming from 600 €/night official tarrif. Next time I'll reserve direct and try to get breakfast included, they ask for 30+ for breakfast, argh. BTW I tried hotel Diana recently - very well situated and quite correct, I think it is one of your favourite hotels, no ? something I liked too is that they have wooden floor - I don't like carpet floor. |

Small hotel in the 6th? I can't believe nobody has recommended the Bonaparte! After years of Ira's recommendations, we finally stayed there in October 2013.
And you know what? We liked it! We knew we'd like the area, since we had rented an apartment nearby (in 2010) when we took our granddaughter to Paris for her high school graduation present. The location is perfect (for us, anyway.) Our room was nice and large (I think it was actually a triple.) We walked almost everywhere. Anyway, we found it very nice and convenient. Yes , I have stayed at the Hotel Diana.. and was happy with it.. the location is very convenient.. not near in midst of the busy hub of the Latin Quarter.. but just a few blocks away.. easy to walk to many sites.. and like that the beds had duvets instead of old pilly blankets.

You can't beat this little hotel in a great location in the 6th - rates include breakfast and use of some kitchen facilities.

I like the Clément on rue Clément, just one street south of Bvd St. Germaine, near several bus lines and metro stops. It seems reasonable to me, around 160-170€, breakfast is ample but not included.

I used to stay at the Hôtel de France on the Blvd. de la Tpur Maubourg all the time and loved it. Have no idea what the prices are these days, but it was the friendliest hotel I've ever stayed at in Paris.

@fuzzbucket: We too love Hotel St. Andre des Arts and would heartily recommend it to the budget traveler. However, the last time we were there (October 2015) we were chatting with the staff and have been told the it has been sold to a big investment "group" that is madly buying up property in the area. They have big plans to turn it into an upscale luxury hotel of some type. (that's going to require a lot of money!!!) At that point they didn't know of a timeline and weren't sounding positive about if they would still be employed within the year. :(
We've stayed at Hotel Clement and liked it though the rooms are very small for what you get. It's been a few years but the Hotel Welcome right across from Eglise St. Germain was a budget option as well. It does have excellent location and a lift (extremely small) which are musts for us. |
Never been to Saint Andre des arts.
Should try it but I usually am disappointed when I stay in the 6th. Really too touristy got my taste, I feel as a francophone that I am the foreigner :-). |

I stayed in a Vacationsinparis flat right across from the Hotel St Andre des Arts. It looked good value for the money (I could literally see into the rooms) and I checked out the entrance one day.
Technically a pedestrian street, taxis and delivery vans can come down it. Street noise is quite exuberant until maybe 1:00-2:00 am if windows open (same with the Clément). Same almost anywhere in Paris centre, really. |

Also stayed at Hotel Fleurie. Good location- -rooms fairly small. Also stayed at Citadines Quai Augustin--Higher priced but great location - across the street from the Seine and close to St. Michel metro stop, Notre Dame,etc

We stayed at La Bourdonnais, mentioned above, back in 1994 on our first trip to Paris as a married couple. It was then a somewhat dated but comfortable 3-star hotel. It's since been renovated and is now a modern 4-star property. We decided to try out the new version for a week this winter. The rate for their largest non-suite double is 204 euros per night, which covers the room (upper floor with balcony and view of the Eiffel Tower), taxes, wifi, and breakfast. For a 4-star property in that area, we consider the rate moderate and reasonable. And hooray, there will be no jet lag on this trip (three-hour direct train ride v 12-hour flight with two plane changes)
