Small hotel/inn in Paris
 

We are 4 girl cousins who are planning a vacation in France in Sept/Oct in 2009. Our itinerary includes 5 nights in Paris and we are looking for a good, central place to stay as we won't be renting a car. We are wanting a clean, affordable place with charm that is accessible to transportation. As we have never been to Paris before, we'll be looking at the standard tourist places to see. One place we've been recommended to is Hotel Riboutte Lafayette but would welcome other suggestions as well. Thank you.

We can't really make recommendations without knowing your budget. There are many small hotels, but some are very expensive.

We stayed with my girls at the Hotel Londres Eiffel and really loved it. Very quiet area and easy access to Metro.

... and hopefully, you'll want to get two twin rooms so you have 2 bathrooms, so factor that suggestion into your price/budget.

We liked the clean but basic Hotel Sevigne in the Marais.

It is 86 euro for a twin room with shower, breakfast is extra but you can get that easily at any of the cafes in the surrounding streets. There is even an American diner that does breakfast a few doors down, though you might prefer a cafe creme and a croissant.

The hotel is a few mins walk to the metro and 5 min walk to the Seine. There are lots of shops about in the area, it's quite lively.

We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 131E dbl w/bkfst. It is just around the corner from Place St. Sulpice, near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.

The staff speaks English well, and is very helpful.

I don't remember if it has quad rooms, but with 4 women I expect that you would want 2 bathrooms.

Remember you need to be thinking in euro. 50usd per person is 38 euro... so 2x that's 76 euro for a double room (would be your price range).

Hotel du Lys, well-located, has a certain charm, breakfast included in the price. www.hoteldulys.com

Based on your budget I would seriously look at an apartment. Check out these sites:

I also would consider apartments instead of a hotel/inn. With 4 girls together, if you're willing to share that gets you up to 150 euro/night allowance which could get something nice.

An apt. might be a good solution, if you are interested in that. It involves more trouble and things you have to do (like prepay, etc.).

That is a very very tight budget, just hope the USD doesn't drop again. There aren't a lot of double hotel rooms for 78 euro in central Paris during peak hotel booking season (which is Sept-Oct, rates are highest). There are a few, sure, but you will not have a lot of choice and you might forget the charm criteria.

I agree that "charm" is not likely in that price range.

Thanks everyone - I don't know what I was thinking, of course that's not enough money per night in Paris! More along the night of $200 per night per room would be what makes sense to me so that would work out to $100 pp per night.

To your original question, for centrally located, I'd look in the 5th or 6th (maybe 4th or 7th) arrondisements for a place to stay.

First, let me advise you to ignore herewego13. That's advertising which isn't allowed on this forum.

We have stayed at the comfortable Hotel Familia located in the 5th. You can get a double with A/C and minibar from 109 euro, breakfast included, walking distance to many tourist sites, including Notre Dame. Hotel has a lift. The breakfast room is quite charming. Management speaks English and are friendly and helpful. Wherever you stay, you'll love Paris!
