Slpit stay in Santorini ???

I will be heading out with my wife to Santorini in August and we have a few questions.

1) We decided on spending seven days split between Santorini and Mykonos (Please don't convince us on Paros and Nasos, have seen many forums on this.) The question is do we split 4 days in Santorini and 2 in Mykonos or 3 and 3. We are flying into Santorini and will take the ferry to Mykonos from Santorini. We will be flying out of Mykonos.

2) If 4 days makes sens in Santorini, which is where we are leaning. Does it make sense to spend two days in a hotel in OIA and two in the FIRA area to experience both rather than travelling back and forth?

Thx all. Great forum BTW. Has been invaluable thus far.

3 and 3. Santorini is a small island, stay in one place, preferably Oia. Consider a day trip from Mykonos to Delos.
(No trying to convince you to go to Paros which we preferred)

Thank you both. Sounds like 3-3.

The problem with Mykonos is that we already have airline tix flying out of there at 11:45AM and we could not get over from Paros. Unless there is something I am missing.

So far there's nothing on the books for an early-morning ferry from Paros to Mykonos, and in August you would be tempting the wind gods to make that same-day connection impossible, so even if something does materialize, DON'T try it.

Thx Brotherleelove. You have all convinced me on OIA in Santorini. Where would you recommend on Mykonos, The South beaches, by the port, the southwest?

I'm not currently familiar with what there is to offer on Mykonos, but I love the looks of this place if you want privacy and have a car to use: http://www.mykonosthea.com

I was not planning on renting a car and although I don't mind privacy I feel that would be to isolated

I am looking at hotels/suites in OIA in the 200 to 250E/night for the first week in Aug and I like what I see for Caldera, Oia Suites and Aethrio and Armeni. Which of these or others would you recommend, I hate to judge things based on pics on Hotel booking sites. I am looking for a phenomenal sunset private balcony with a fresh water pool.

None of those have a sunset view. Check Oia Castle Hotel, Esperas Houses, Fanari Villas, Marizan Villas and Golden Sunset Villas.

Oia Castle, Marizan and GSV don't have outdoor pools but they have priveleges at the nearby Lioyerma Cafe/Pool, which is also a great place to sit and watch the sunset as long as you get there early enough to claim a table.

No pool is out. I learnt that on previous trips, and the pool at Fanari looks pretty small. Is there a better view and pool you would recommend from Fira or Immolviglia and we can take a day trip down to IA?

Imerovigli hotels have the best overall view of both the caldera and the sunset.

Thank you. I have spent time on the site, but invariably the comments somehow always reflect that the pictures oversold the property. Just trying t be cautious since they are not cheap. What are your thoughts about Pegasus Suites?

The best way for you to get first-hand information about the hotels that interest you is to go to tripadvisor.com, read the reviews, then send a private message to those reviewers who might have the knowledge you seek that isn't already offered.

Santorini - We stayed at Artemis Suites in Imerovigli. I will stay in Oia next time because of the ambience there.
However, we thought the views were spectacular and the location was very convenient. We walked down to Fira or took the bus. People talk about the busy road, but we found a walking trail to avoid most of the road. There were some nice little tavernas nearby.
Mykonos - We stayed at Poseidon Suites on the edge of town. Great location to walk to town. Take the bus or rent a car to get to the beaches.
I'll mention that after you do these glorious islands, we'll be on standby ready to advise you on your next trip to Paros and Naxos.

Thanks parosblue. I hope you are correct. I would love nothing more than to go back and try other islands.

Can anyone recommend a reliable catameran for a day trip with lunch in the caldera?
